LAKELAND - Mr. I.B. Higgins, 82, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 due to heart failure. He was born in Melvinhill, NC. I.B. worked as a truck driver for Publix for 32 years. He was known for his great sense of humor and kept everyone laughing. I.B. loved fishing, gardening, spending time with grandkids and family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Calhoun Higgins; son, Thomas I. Higgins of Lakeland; daughters, Toni (Tim) McCraig of Lakeland, Christina (Sam) Thomas of Green Mountain, NC, Shirley Higgins, Laurie (Joe) Williams, Ruby (Brandon) Forester all of Lakeland, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Sat. (today) 11:00am at Gentry Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park.
LAKELAND - Miss Kylie Yvette Greathouse went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 due to respiratory failure. She is survived by her loving parents, Brittany Paige McCoy and Leonard Andrew Greathouse; maternal grandparents, Kenneth & Sonya McCoy; maternal great grandparents, Earl & Martha Pittman; paternal great grandparents, Joseph & Helen Higdon; maternal great grandparents Michael & Roda McCoy; maternal aunt, Lindsey McCoy; paternal aunt, Lisa Creacy. LAKELAND - David H. "Papa" Jones Jr., 74, went to meet his heavenly Father on 12/24/12 due to heart failure.
David was a lifetime resident of Lakeland FL before retiring in upstate SC in 1999. He served as a U.S. Army paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne for 3 years, worked in the phosphate industry, then 33 years for Farmland Industries in Mulberry, FL until he retired. Papa enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, playing with his dogs and telling his life stories to his grandchildren. He loved sitting on the back porch, could name any plant or tree, a devoted Florida Gator fan, and was an avid history buff, especially WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arlene Sheridan Jones; sister, Sherri Jones-Morgan (Jerry) of Bartow, FL; son, Kevin David Jones (Aimee) of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Karen Kochenburger (Jim) of Altamonte Springs, FL; granddaughters, Brooke Jones, Stephanie Jones Whipple (Kristopher), Hanna Larracas Jones & Kristin Kochenburger; and grandsons, David R. Jones, David "Oyo" Larracas Jones & Michael Kochenburger (Hannah).
Funeral services will be Mon. 12/31 at 11 a.m. at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd. Lakeland.
LAKELAND - Danielle E. Platt Floyd, 35, passed away Dec. 15, 2012 due to complications of diabetes.
Danielle was born on Mar. 29, 1977. She was and always will be remembered as a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister and granddaughter. Danielle was loved by many.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Floyd; son, Korbin Floyd; daughter, Zoey Floyd; step daughter, Emilee Floyd; mother and father, Donna & Mike Renn; brothers, Dougie and Jake Platt; sister, Stevelle Baydo; and grandfather, Douglas Platt.
Danielle had a way to make people smile, even when you were having a bad day, you could always count on her to make you smile and make your day better. She always told her loved ones that she loved them and made sure they felt loved.
Danielle had been in pain for a very long time, and had been fighting diabetes for 32 years. Even though she had been fighting the pain and diabetes, she found the strength to get up everyday, and not let the diabetes and pain stop her. She will always be remembered for her beauty, her laugh, her personality, her love, her hugs, her eyes, her smile and the memories she left everyone. Danielle left a footmark on everyone's heart. She will always be with her loved ones as she looks down on them. Danielle, you are loved, and you will always be missed.
LAKELAND - Gertrude "Frances" Hamm, 89, of Lakeland, passed away Dec. 21, 2012 due to natural causes. Frances was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved here to Lakeland in 1987 from Cleveland OH. She worked for a time as a school nurse in Monroe, CT, prior to moving to OH where she retired as the Director of Nursing at Hillcrest Hospital in Lyndhurst, OH after 17 years, and then moved to Lakeland and began working here at Watson Clinic for 14 years before retiring in 2002. She was an avid reader of Christian publications, and was a member of the North Lakeland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph; a son Stephen and his wife Katie of Paradise, CA; a daughter Susan Kirby and her husband Barry of Nashville, TN; a sister Uldine Clark; and 5 grandchildren. Memorial services will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 at the North Lakeland Presbyterian Church at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by Gentry-Morrison, Northside.
