LAKELAND - Mr. W. Tillman May of Lakeland, Florida, went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2012 after suffering with dementia and Parkinson's disease.
He was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi on May 31, 1933. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1951 and earned his Associate's Degree from Polk Community College. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after 30 years in crop insurance. He was a member of First Baptist Church at the Mall.
He is preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Myrtle May, and brother Travis May of Men-denhall, MS. He is survived by wife of 23 years, Frances May of Kansas City, Missouri, son and daughter-in-law Joey and Sabrina May of Hoschton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law Janice and Bob Pietsch of Ashburn, VA and Joanie and Conrad Hawthorne of Henderson, NV; grandchildren Jana Fleming of Atlanta, GA, Molly May of Kennesaw, GA, Trevor and Travis Pietsch of Ashburn, VA, and Joseph and Lauren Hawthorne of Henderson, NV. He is also survived by his sister Phenia Johnson of Lakeland and from Mississippi, sister Eve Jean Hinton and brothers Grady May and Curvin May.
A celebration of his life will be held in the chapel at First Baptist Church at the Mall on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 41 Perimeter Center East Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or at alz.org or First Baptist Church at the Mall.
