Dr. William Burns Yates

DR. WILLIAM BURNS YATES, 86

LAKELAND - Lifelong Florida resident, Dr. William Burns Yates passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008 while under Hospice care in Jupiter, Florida.

Dr. Yates was born December 19, 1921 in Bowden, Georgia and moved to Lakeland with his mother and father while still an infant. Dr. Yates graduated from Lakeland High School in 1941 where he played Dreadnought football. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship until the outbreak WW II. After the outbreak of WW II, Burns joined the USAF and served until the end of the war. After the war ended, he returned to college and became a Dr. of Optometry. After graduation, he again joined the USAF and was stationed at McDill AFB in Tampa, Florida during the Korean War. After his second tour in the USAF, he returned to Lakeland where he set up his practice in Optometry. Dr. Yates also had a small Angus ranch in Medulla and had a road (Yates Road) named after him. Dr. Yates was a member of the Lakeland Lions Club and American Legion. He was also an avid outdoorsman whose favorite pastime was fishing. After retirement, he spent much of his time fishing and hiking in Steinhatchee, Florida.

Dr. Yates was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Dorothy Yates, a daughter Barbara Yates, his brother Jack Yates and his mother and father Mr. And Mrs. B. B. Yates. Dr. Yates is survived by his son, Thomas and his wife Kathleen Cunningham of Jupiter; grandchildren, Thomas Cunningham III and Danielle Brancato, and his great grandchildren, Julian Cunningham, Dylan Brancato and Ethan Brancato.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

John O. Troutt

JOHN O. TROUTT, 73

Truck Driver for
Ace Hardware

POLK CITY - John Troutt died February 28, 2008 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center due to a stroke.

Mr. Troutt was born May 5, 1934 in Princeton, Indiana and moved to Polk City 6 years ago from Toledo, Ohio.  He was a truck driver for Ace Hardware, worked as a Road Ranger in Polk County for the past 2 years and was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriner's and Eagles.

Mr. Troutt was preceded in death by his parents John and Birdie Troutt and wife Norma C. Troutt. He is survived by sons Robert (Sharon) Troutt of Indianapolis, Indiana, Alan (Betsy) Troutt of Pemberville, Ohio, grandchildren Amber, James, Michael, Eddie, John and Jacob and 3 great grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a later date in St. Francisville, Illinois.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.

RUTH F. (STANLEY) RYNNE, 88

LAKELAND- On Monday, February 25, 2008, Ruth F. (Stanley) Rynne of Lakeland, FL formerly of Quincy, MA, entered eternal life due to heart failure.

Born May 28, 1919, to Warren & Agnes (Keough) Stanley of Dorchester, MA. She retired to FL in 1982. Preceded in death by her brother, Warren (Buddy); her husband of 59 years John F. Rynne, and her daughter, Paula Steeves of Lakeland, FL. She is survived by her sister, Helen Beaudoin of Braintree, MA; Paul Stanley of Milford, CT, and sister-in-law Phyllis R. Deane of S. Yarmouth, MA; by her sons, John P. Rynne of Whitman, MA, Naples, FL, and Kenneth T. Rynne of Washington, DC; and by 8 grandchildren, Michael Steeves, Dianna White, and James Steeves of Lakeland, FL; Kevin Rynne of Braintree, MA, Amy Archambault of Los Angeles, CA, Beth DeSantis of Braintree, MA, Binky Rynne of San Antonio, TX, and Alex Rynne of Annandale, VA and San Diego, CA and 8 great-grandchildren, Sydney White, Reese White, Brady Steeves, Sarah Steeves, Aidan Rynne, Jake Rynne, Ava Rose Rynne, and Paige DeSantis.

She will always be remembered and loved by her family and many friends in heaven and on earth in Roxbury Crossing, Dorchester, Camp McKay, Brighton, Wilmington, Quincy, & Lakeland. It was a Wonderful Life! Services will be held privately.

LINDA ROBBINS, 64

LAKELAND - Mrs. Linda Clarene Robbins passed away February 27, 2008 of heart failure.
Mrs. Robbins was born in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee on Aug. 26, 1943. She moved to Lakeland, FL from Lawrenceburg, TN. She was a homemaker and member of Family Worship Center.

Mrs. Robbins is survived by her husband, V.E. Robbins; sons, David Anthony (Lori) Robbins of Cartersville, GA, Timothy Ray (Rochelle) Robbins of Auburndale, FL; sister, Ann Fleeman of Lawrenceburg, TN; grandchildren, Dustin, Holly, Kyle, Timothy Jr. (J.R.), and Katie Robbins, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 pm at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd., Lakeland. Services will be conducted Sat. 1 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Samuel Phillips officiating. A special thanks goes out to Good Shepherd Hospice for the care they provided to Linda.

LAKELAND - William "Bill" H. Brown, 76, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at his home due to complications with COPD.

He was born August 4, 1931 in Pierpont, OH to Leo and Beatrice (Traxler) Brown and moved to Lakeland in 2006 from Ashtabula, OH. Bill is retired from True Temper Tools and is a Korean War Army Veteran.

He preceded in death by his father and a brother, Larry Brown. Bill was united in marriage on June 11, 1966 in Jefferson, OH to Nona Niemi, who resides in Lakeland. He is also survived by his mother, Beatrice Brown of Jefferson, OH; daughters, Janette Brown and Trudi Turner both of Ashtabula, Tammy Brown and Tracey King both of Lakeland; sons, Jeff (Beth) Brown of Columbus, OH and Kevin Brown of Spring Hill, FL; brother, Robert (Jean) Brown of Inverness, FL; sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Milner of Broomfield, CO and Joyce Miller of Barefoot Bay, FL; fourteen grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also survive.

Friends will be received from 6-8pm Saturday at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes, Dukes-Steen Chapel, Lakeland. Interment will take place privately at Florida National Cemetery, Bushell, FL.

Lakeland – Mrs. Linda Clarene Robbins passed away February 27, 2008 of heart failure.

LAKELAND - Earl J. Howard, Sr. died Feb. 21, 2008 of respiratory failure at Palm Terrace Hospice House. He was 70.

Mr. Howard was born Aug. 27, 1937 in Bradenton, FL and was of the Baptist Faith. He owned and operated Howard Building Systems, General Contractors and served in the United States Marine Corps during Korea with the rank of E4, Sgt. He was a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis Club, active with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Leader, President of North Lakeland Little League Baseball and coached Little League Football and Girls Softball.

He is survived by his wife Shelvery J. Howard, daughter Rhonda Smith, sons Earl J. Howard, Jr., Charles Howard, grandchildren Jennifer Davis, Heather Goldsmith, Kayla Howard, great grandchildren Riley Davis, Conner Davis, 1 brother, and 4 sisters.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb.26th at 3:00 p.m. at Gentry-Morrison, Northside Chapel. In-lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 500 S. Missouri Ave., Suite 500 Lakeland, FL 33815.

Harold Bray

Lakeland, FL – Harold C. Bray, age 75 of Lakeland, died on February 23,
2008 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center from complications related to
surgery.

Harold was born in Commerce, Georgia on March 1, 1932.  He was a Veteran
of the U.S. Army.  Harold worked as a master carpenter his entire life, most recently for Joe Goldsmith Construction. Harold was a sports enthusiast who played softball, ran marathons, and enjoyed ballroom dancing.  An avid golfer and long-time member of Cleveland Heights Golf Course, Harold won many local and charitable tournaments. A faithful member of Highland Park Church of the Nazarene and the Cliffhangers Class, he was known as the “Miracle Man” because of the many miracles God performed in his life over the past 6 years. Harold was an inspiration to many and used his time and talents in service to his God, church, and
community.

Harold passed from the pain of this world into the everlasting peace and glory of the Lord where he is now gazing upon the beauty of the One who kept him safe in his day of trouble. While we are deeply saddened with his passing and will grieve his loss deeply, we are joyful in the hope of His
glory, taking confidence in the fact that Harold knew where he was going and couldn't wait to get there.

Harold is survived by: son H. Scott Bray and his wife, Pat, from Howey-in-the-Hills, daughter Teresa Bray-Paul and her husband, Joseph, from Lakeland, daughter Joy B. Day from Lakeland; grandchildren Laura Fannin, Darien Bray, Kalen Bray, Jessica Day, and Jeremy Day; brother
Travis Bray and his wife, Eleanor, sister Elizabeth Reeder, and sister Embry Myers, all of Greensboro, NC.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Highland Park Church of the Nazarene.  After the service, family will receive friends at a homegoing reception at the church.

In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the mission program at Highland Park Church of the Nazarene, 4777 Lakeland Highlands Rd., Lakeland, FL  33813.
