LAKELAND - Mr. Bernard Masters, 73, passed away on Monday, 5/28/07 at LRMC of Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy.

He was a native of Lawrence, Massachusetts and a resident since 1989 from Chelmsford, Mass. Mr. Masters was a retired landscape contractor and a Army veteran, member of Temple Emanuel of Lakeland and B'nai B'rith Lodge #1515 of Lakeland. He received a Bachelors degree from Florida Southern College, class of 1956.

Mr. Masters was preceded in death by a son, Louis Jay Masters, and is survived by his wife, Korina R. Masters; a daughter, Beverly Rose Masters of Nashua, N. H. and 2 grandchildren, Sara M. Skaggs and Rory L. Skaggs along with a special sister-in-law, Joan Greenbaum and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 P.M. Wednesday from Gentry-Morrison Dukes Steen Chapel, 1833 S. Florida Ave, Lakeland and interment follows in Temple Emanuel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Louis Jay Masters Endowment Scholarship Fund, C/0 Syracuse University, The Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette Street, Syracuse, New York 13202-1202.

Andy Brown

Lakeland - Mr. Andy Brown, 35, went to be with his eternal father on May 26, 2007. He passed away peacefully in his sleep due to cancer.

Andy was born on March 10, 1972 to Alex and Sara Brown in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He worked as a MRI Technician for Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Andy was a member of the Pentecostals of Apopka Church, which he loved to attend. He enjoyed playing golf and riding his motorcycle, but most importantly spending time with his family. Andy maintained his strong faith during his illness. His bright smile and positive attitude will be forever missed.

Andy is survived by his wife, Charity; children, Lindsey, Jacob and Luke; parents, Alex and Sara Brown; sister, Amy and her husband David Woodard; nephew, Elijah Woodard; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs, P.D. Brown; brother-in-law, Jonathan Stone; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Judy Gier.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Road, Lakeland. Services will be conducted on Friday at 3 p.m. at Victory Church's Chapel, 1401 Griffin Road, Lakeland. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park.

LAKELAND - John (Jack) Edwin Drouillard, 77, passed away Friday, May 25, 2007, of acute respiratory distress syndrome.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from De LaSalle High School in 1947. After serving in the Korean War, Jack became product manager of Sundstrand Heat Transfer in Dowagiac, Michigan. Upon retirement in 1991, he and his wife retired to Lakeland, Florida where he enjoyed playing golf and watching Notre Dame Football and Detroit Tiger baseball games. Jack was a member of Holy Maternity Catholic Church while living in Dowagiac, Michigan where he served as a Lectern. After moving to Lakeland, he became a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was also a life member of VFW Post 8002. Jack also served on the Board of Directors for Brigantine Quarters, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for 16 years.

Jack is survived by his wife of 23 years, Janet Green Drouillard, 3 sons John (Shelly), Thomas (Theresa) and David (Tina) Drouillard, and 1 daughter, Julie (Fr. Shenork) Souin. Also, three stepsons, Robert, Thomas and Joseph Guntle, and 1 stepdaughter, Susan Shipley. Together Jack and Jan have 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Jack is also survived by 1 sister, Dolores (Thomas) Perry.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 210 W. Lemon Street, Lakeland at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the American Lung Association of Florida, Central Area, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN 56007-8000.

LAKELAND - Dr. Richard Thomas Rees, 69, of Lakeland, FL died Friday, May 25, 2007 at Tampa General Hospital from heart failure.

Born in Kingston, PA on Jan. 4, 1938, he was a 1955 graduate of Kingston High School and served in the U. S. Marine Corps. Dr. Rees held a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, with a major in history and a minor in English. He also held a master's degree and doctorate in Educational Administration from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Following a career as a high school teacher, coach and administrator, he spent ten years as a professor at Montclair State University and Wilkes University.

Since 1980, Dr. Rees was involved in health care human resource education and development. He was president of Rees and Associates, Inc., a private consulting firm centering on learning technology, leadership development, team development and educational efficiencies especially in small to mid-sized organizations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Rees developed education programming including continuing medical education, continuing clinical education, in-service education, patient education, community education, non-clinical training and the production of multi-media interactive courseware for training purposes.

In addition, he has implemented several comprehensive education and training processes to support major organizational restructuring through multi-skilling, leadership development and team development.

In addition, Dr. Rees led over 350 seminars centering on management and organizational issues. He was a presenter at numerous national and regional meetings including the American Society for Health Care Education and Training, the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education, the American Society for Training and Development, and the National Federation of Urban and Suburban School Districts. He conducted workshops for the leadership teams of numerous leading health care and business organizations such as AT&T, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. As an adjunct professor for Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Rees taught doctoral level courses in organizational theory and behavior and human resource development, he also published numerous articles in leading research and professional journals. He is co-author of The Successful Leadership Development Program: How to Build It and How to Keep it Going: published by Pfeiffer/Wiley in June 2006. Further, Dr. Rees served as an organizational development and restructuring consultant to several major healthcare organizations across the country.

Finally, he held the distinction of "Fellow, Health Care Education" through the Action for Professional Excellence Program of the American Hospital Association.

He is survived by his wife Linda Weatherill Rees, son, David William Rees and wife Donna Rees, daughter, Diane Lynne Rees Mikolon and husband Mark Mikolon, all of Lakeland, FL, mother, Anne Rees, sister, Margaret A. Fetch of Kingston, PA, brother, Morgan R. Rees of Naples, FL. and Tiffin, Ohio; also two grandsons, Austyn Rees Mikolon, and Dylan John Mikolon of Lakeland, FL. and several nieces and nephews.  He's predeceased by his father, William A. Rees and brother, David A. Rees.

A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at North Lakeland Presbyterian Church, 6725 N. Socrum Loop Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to a charity of your choice.

AUBURNDALE - Howard DeVore, 69, of Auburndale, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at his home of heart failure.

Howard was born February 5, 1938 in Lakeland to Howard and Ruby (Team) DeVore. He is a US Air Force veteran and worked most of his life as an automobile mechanic and as a luthier for Lakeland Music.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary. He is survived by his wife, Brandi of Auburndale; his children, Gayle Brower of Lakeland, Tracey DeVore, John & Melissa and Scott & Malcomb, all of Austin, TX and Bryan & Elizabeth of Auburndale; his nephew, Kenneth & Shelly DeVore of Lakeland and his grandchildren, Reece and Bailee DeVore of Auburndale.

Memorial services will be held at a future date.

LAKELAND - Everett C. Holcomb, 86, of Lakeland, died Friday May 25, 2007 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center of heart failure.

He was born April 15, 1921 in Alice, OH to Ira and Ruth (Franklin) Holcomb and moved here in 1979 from Logan, OH. Everett was a WW II Navy Veteran and retired from Sun Glow Furniture Co. in Logan with over fifteen years of employment. He also worked for many years repairing radio and televisions.

Everett is preceded in death by his wife, Alice, three brothers, Ruben, Robert and Raymond, a sister, Madeline Green and a great granddaughter. He is survived by his sons, Curtis of Lakeland, Terry of Hot Springs, SD and Dale of Smithfield, OH; a daughter, Jeanne Stewart of Waverly, OH; a brother, Frank of Logan, OH; sisters, Laura Ritter of Columbus, OH and Reva Primer of Logan, OH; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 9-11am Tuesday at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes, Dukes-Steen Chapel, Lakeland where funeral services will be held at 11am. Interment will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery.

LAKELAND - Mr. David "Gator Dave" M. Taylor died Thursday May 24, 2007 at his home in Lakeland due to cancer.

Dave was born September 8, 1952 in Orlando, Florida to John & Ruth Taylor. He moved to Lakeland 15 years ago from Orlando, and was a member of the Lake Gibson Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Taylor of Lakeland; daughters, Tammy Jo (Sweetheart) Miller and her husband Kent (My Man) of Sesser, Fl, and Erica Lynn (Daddy's little girl) Taylor of Orlando, Fl; son, Drew Michael (Drewby Doo) Taylor of Orlando, Fl; four brothers, John "Jack" Taylor, Jr. and his wife Gena of Lakeland, Richard K. Taylor and his wife Jewel of Alabama, Alan B. Taylor and his wife Debbie of Kentucky, and George R. Taylor and his wife Julie of Orlando, Fl; two grandchildren, Michael G. (Budinski Boy) Miller & Haley C. (Halo) Miller.

Richard "Dick" Howe

LAKELAND - Mr. Richard "Dick" Howe of Lakeland died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center due to kidney failure.

He was born July 28, 1925 in Utica, New York. Mr. Howe served in the Navy during WWII. He worked with General Electric (GE) in Utica, NY and Schenectady, NY and retired after 15 years of service. Dick also enjoyed working with his family in their "Ed's True Value Hardware" store in Johnstown, NY. His interests included playing Bridge, Shuffleboard and being an avid Antique Car Enthusiasts. Mr. Howe moved to Lakeland from Winter Haven in 1998. He was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Lakeland and attended the Northside Baptist Church of Lakeland.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Mary Jane (Basile) Howe. Survivors include his wife, Lorena (Salt) Howe of Lakeland; daughters, Fern Jutras and her husband Edward of Hendersonville, N.C., Christine Chiappetta and her husband, Peter of Austin, TX; step-daughter, Patricia Watkins and her husband Wayne of Auburndale; two grandchildren, Peter Jutras and James Watkins; two great-grandchildren, James and Andrew Jutras; three step-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, First Church of Christ, Scientist or the Northside Baptist Church.

The visitation will be Thursday, May 24 from 2-3pm at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home (Northside Chapel). The Funeral Service will begin at 3:00pm at the chapel.
