Lakeland - Janet Powell Lowery 72 died of heart failure on Nov. 17, 2006 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland.
She was a native of Brewster and was born Aug. 20, 1934 to Ernest and Maude Adams Powell. Mrs. Lowery graduated from Mulberry High School in 1952. She was employed by Florida Southern College for more than ten years as well as a wonderful mother to 3 and like a second mother to David Hunter, David Warren and Scott Maginn, all of Lakeland and a loving friend to many.
She married Wendell R. "Bud" Lowery in 1958. He preceded her in death in 1984 after 26 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lowery Cline and fiance', Scott Lemieux of St. Petersburg; her son, David and wife Leisa Lowery of Lakeland; her son, Christopher and wife Jennifer Lowery of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Martha Powell of Lakeland and Stephanie and husband Richard Cecil of Charlotte, NC; her brother-in-law, Charles and wife Sue Lowery of Summerfield, FL; three granddaughters: Brittney and Breanne Cline and Mercedes Lowery; three nephews and one niece: Benjamin, Sara and Jonathan Cecil and Stevie Lowery: as well as her cousin Lubie and husband William Tomkins Of Canton, NC.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 10 to 11 am at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, 1727 Bartow Hwy (98) South in Lakeland. Interment will follow at nearby Lakeland Memorial Gardens, 2125 Bartow Hwy. South . Pastor Jeff Karns of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Church will lead the graveside celebration of Janet's life at 11:30 am.
