VIVIAN BREWINGTON, 76
Polk County Schools
LAKELAND - Ms. Vivian Combee Brewington was a big fan of bluegrass music and could often be found at the International Flea Market in Auburndale on Thursday listening to the musicians.
"She couldn't go see them for the last few months so they came to her last week and the four of them played for mother," her daughter, Linda Koch of Lakeland said.
Her children noted that the musicians formed a friendship with their mother and loved her dearly.
Ms. Brewington, a retired cafeteria worker for Polk County Schools, died of kidney failure Tuesday (July 25, 2006) at home at the age of 76.
The lifelong resident of Polk County was born in Lakeland on Nov. 3, 1929, and attended "strwberry schools" in the Kathleen area when she was growing up.
Her career with Polk County schools spanned 18 years and was primarily spent at Crystal Lake Middle School.
Her children described her as an outgoing, giving person, who always did for others.
She was an active member of Gapway Baptist Church where she belonged to the Jolly Sisters Sunday School Class and volunteered for bereavement dinners.
Ms. Brewington is survived by her son, Mickey Brewington, Lakeland; daughters, Joyce Townsend, Ella McNally, Pat King and Linda Koch, all of Lakeland; brother, Robert Combee, Auburndale; sisters, Myrtice Ingalls, Margie Miller, Thelma Combee and Irene Ballard, all of Lakeland; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
