GERALDINE "JERRY" M. McGEE, 80
LAKELAND - Mrs. Geraldine "Jerry" M. McGee, 80, passed away on December 9, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. With her family at her side Jerry peacefully went into God's loving hands.
Jerry was born on September 22, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska to Martin and Gertrude Herek. In 1950 Jerry was married to her husband John McGee. As John moved up the corporate ladder, Jerry moved her six children to numerous homes across the Midwest making many friends throughout Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. In 1974 the family moved to Lakeland.
In the last 20 years, Franklin, NC became a home away from home for Jerry and John as they spent many summers enjoying the community and the mountains. As an avid golfer she was runner up in local women's golf tournaments at Cleveland Heights and Lone Palm. She was also a dedicated bridge player.
Jerry said numerous times that she was blessed having 6 healthy children and her passion in life was making her family a priority. Because of her strong beliefs she seldom worked outside the home and was a fulltime mother and grandmother.
Jerry was a devout Catholic and was a very active parishioner at the Church of the Resurrection in South Lakeland. She was a past member of the RCCW and participated as a Eucharistic Minister.
Her family and friends will miss her loving spirit, her humor and sharp wit which she maintained to the very end.
